Impressum Publishing is proud to announce the release of Josie Robs a Bank & Other Stories, a new short story collection from award-winning Australian YA author Gabrielle Reid. Released November 30th in paperback and ebook, this is a powerful collection that straddles the line between teen and adult fiction.

Josie Robs a Bank is full of memorable characters and unique tales, linked by common themes of resilience, survival and growth. The book features a diverse cast of characters including #ownvoices perspectives on asexuality, eating disorders and depression. Including some stories that have previously appeared in literary journals, and some all-new material, this is a collection sure to have something for everyone.

Reid returns to her powerful and nuanced understanding of sexual abuse in Fruit Breakfasts and Shatter. Bovine Larceny brings a lighter touch, centering on the bittersweet moments at the end of high school as a group of friends pull one last prank. Older teens and adult readers will appreciate the poignant representations of loss in Shadow and Terezin, while youth return to the forefront in Heart Disease, where a girl watches from above her body as emergency room doctors try to work out what caused her heart failure.

Gabrielle Reid’s previous novel, The Things We Can’t Undo, won the Australian Association of Family Therapists Book Award in 2019. While she is working on other novels, including a PhD at the University of Newcastle, Reid says this collection is something she has wanted to release for a long time.

“It comes down to the story itself, whether it is better suited to being told in the short form or a longer book,” she explains. “But I think some of my shorter works are ones I am even more eager to share with the world.”

Impressum publisher Sheree Chambers says she hopes to see more short story collections like Reid’s. “They’re ideal in our current time-poor world, especially for people who prefer ebooks, or teenagers with a few minutes to spare on their commute to school. Gabrielle is a talented writer and we’re really excited to see where this goes.”

Josie Robs a Bank and Other Stories is distributed via Ingram Group (returns and wholesaler discounts apply).
