Tuesday, June 15th, 2021 - Kudos

Kudos, Australia’s first mutual spun out from the public service, is now providing dedicated full-time support to children (aged 7+), teenagers and young adults living with a disability in the Iron Triangle - including Whyalla, Port Pirie, Port Augusta and surrounding areas.

This expansion follows a successful 12-month fly-in/fly-out pilot program that quickly attracted numerous clients and interest in referral partnerships from local health services.

Kudos CEO, Darrin Johnson, said: “Kudos has been operating a fly-in/fly-out service for the Iron Triangle region for almost 12 months and we have been thrilled with the level of interest in our NDIS registered therapy services.  Over the last year almost 60 children and young people living in the Iron Triangle have joined our Community of Care and are receiving Kudos therapy services. Today I am very pleased to announce this increase in our operations with the commencement of a full-time service commitment for the region.”

Initially, Kudos will employ a full-time Occupational Therapist, Amy McLaughlin, who will be based in Whyalla. Amy will be supported by additional disciplines such as Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Specialist Support Coordinators and Psychologists, who will travel from Adelaide when required, to support the local community.

Kudos also plans to expand services offered in the region over the coming 12 months. “We are particularly proud that our unique for-purpose, employee-owned business model is allowing us to increase service options for people living in regional South Australia,” Mr Johnson said.

“In addition to a locally based Occupational Therapist, we are keen to recruit a local Speech Pathologist to join our team and hope to expand our services to meet the needs of the community in this region. If you work in allied health and are based in the area, we would be keen to talk to you.”

On Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 June, Kudos CEO, Darrin Johnson, and Therapy Services Manager, Teya Carmichael, will be visiting the region and participating in a range of activities, including meeting with Kudos clients and their families and introducing Kudos Services to key stakeholders in the community and disability services sector.
