Tuesday, March 16th, 2021 - Fresh Hope

Construction work has commenced on a purpose-built retirement village in Kiama that promises to cater for those transitioning into apartment retirement living.

With recognition that in the past ten years the population of Kiama has aged at a faster rate than the rest of the Illawarra region, not-for-profit organisation, Fresh Hope, are focusing on supporting the Kiama community.

Centrally located at 33 Collins Street, the new development will include 56 architect-designed retirement apartments as well as communal spaces, green courtyards, roof-terraces, a lounge and gym. The one, two and three-bedroom apartments are planned to be refreshingly open and cleverly designed for modern seniors living.

Fresh Hope are a trusted, retirement living and aged care operator, with 16 independent facilities across NSW. Executive General Manager of Fresh Hope Care, Lynn Bailey, refers to their previous experiences and hopes for this new project.

“Retirement living is so much more than a place to live. We’ve witnessed how friendships and communities formed provide a new lease on life for residents and, in such a wonderful location, we can’t wait to see that develop in Kiama”, she said.

Fresh Hope have engaged builders, Ganellen who are working closely with neighbouring businesses and homes to minimise disruption to the local community. Kiama Leagues Club have kindly provided access to enter the site via their carpark, which has aided the flow of construction traffic. Ganellen are also communicating regularly with neighbours through a newsletter and informal discussions.

As per the DA approved by Council, works are permitted to take place between 7am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, with no construction to be scheduled on Sundays or Public Holidays.

Many trades within the community have been engaged, including local surveyors, bricklayers, fencers, electricians and plumbers to support local businesses and bring the project to life.

Ground works at the site are well and truly underway and completion of the village is anticipated in early 2023.
